This unit covers the standard phrases used for fire fighting and drills on board. It follows the IMO SMCP phrases for On-board Communications in three areas:

Equipment checks — watertight doors, electrical lighting, emergency power supply and firemen’s outfits.
Reporting fire — fire on board, injured persons, what is on fire, toxic smoke, fire under control or spreading, and damage.
Fire fighting orders — fire mains, shutting down engines, stopping fuel, closing openings, ventilators, turning to windward, stand by teams, route, safety measures, outfit and retreat signal.

Order and report checks of watertight doors, lighting, emergency power and firemen's outfits.
Report a fire on board, what is burning and injured persons.
Report if the fire is under control or spreading, and report damage.
Give first orders: fire mains, engines, fuel, openings and ventilators.
Order teams and stations to stand by and start fire fighting.
Give safety orders: lifelines, breathing apparatus, time limits and retreat signal.
