UNIT 48 – SMCP: DANGEROUS GOODS INCIDENTS

This unit covers the standard phrases used to report incidents with dangerous goods and to take action. It follows the IMO SMCP phrases for On-board Communications in three areas:

• Reporting incidents — dropped goods, leaks, spillage into the sea, rising temperature, smoke, explosions and fires.
• Injured persons and first actions — reporting injuries, the Emergency Plan, altering course, and protective clothing and breathing apparatus.
• Action and rescue — stopping and removing spillage, separating contaminated goods, cooling and ventilating, fighting the fire and rescuing persons.
