UNIT 43 – SMCP: PASSENGER SAFETY BRIEFING

This unit covers the standard phrases used to brief passengers on safety on board. It follows the IMO SMCP phrases for Passenger Care in three areas:

• Restricted spaces — areas and spaces passengers may not enter, such as the navigating bridge, engine room, cargo rooms and car decks at sea.
• Drill and alarm — the passenger drill within 24 hours of departure and the general emergency alarm: seven short blasts and one prolonged blast.
• Fire safety — fire prevention, smoking rules, naked lights and electric irons, and what to do if you detect a fire.
